A Wisbech company has seen off around 20,000 other competing businesses to be awarded with a major industry accolade.

English Brothers Bespoke Projects Limited, sister-company to local and well established timber specialist English Brothers Limited, won the award for Best Individual Dwelling at the regional LABC Awards.

It was presented to managing director Jay Hubbard at an awards ceremony at the Molineux Stadium earlier this month.

In previous years, the company has won numerous awards for its ‘bespoke’ and ‘highly efficient’ timber framed homes.

Jay Hubbard, company director, said of the latest win: “The house was the first of its kind to be built.

“It’s a fascinating combination of modern timber frame with traditional oak post and beam construction, but the major difference is how it was insulated.

“We designed the structure to work in conjunction with a product we recommended

to the client called ‘hemcrete’, which is an entirely natural product, made of hemp and lime.

“When combined with a small amount of water it forms a natural concrete which is then cast around our structural timber frame to provide a 350mm thick solid wall.

“This solid wall helps to create an extremely airtight home meaning much less heat is lost through the walls than in masonry-built homes, so it’s automatically much

more energy efficient and can maintain a constant and comfortable temperature with ease.”

He added that the key to continued success is to “remain flexible and give clients what they want.

“Whilst it’s often hard work and very demanding, everyone pulls together and makes it happen.”
