A 16-year-old from Wisbech has been rewarded for completing 100 hours of voluntary service in just four months.

Ross Bennington, a level one health and social care student at College of West Anglia, regularly volunteers at Saint Augustine’s day centre and the Salvation Army.

Ross was presented with the Lions Young Leaders in Service gold award for 100 hours of volunteering by the Mayor of Wisbech at the council chamber.

He managed to complete the 100 hours in four months, rather than the allocated year.

Ross was at Saint Augustine’s day centre three days a week and now back at college, he still finds time to go in on a Thursday.

He was also recently awarded with the Service to the Community award from Marshland High School, his former secondary school, for his efforts on an anti-bullying week campaign and his countless hours of volunteering.

He said: “I want to go into dementia care once I finish at college.

“Right now I am focusing on progressing to level 3 in health and social care, whilst still volunteering.

“This way, I will be able to go straight into a job, hopefully, after college.”
