A Wisbech author visited children at Elm Primary School to tell them about her experiences in Africa.
Fiona Ross spoke about her childhood in South Africa and how she was brought up by Zulu nannies.
She also told Year 6 children tales of animal encounters and read from a section of her book, ‘White Zulu’, about baboons in her garden.
Miss Ross also explained the process of writing and getting books published before setting them a writing task for homework to describe life in Africa as a letter, diary or adventure story.
For her second visit, she came back to read their work and comment on ways to improve.
Catherine Pearson, from the school, said: “Children were so enthusiastic and really inspired and pleased to complete their homework task for her.
“She was very impressed with their writing and wanted to keep reading; especially those who had included cliff-hanger moments.
“It was a great opportunity for children to write for an audience and to feel their work was really valued.”
