WEST Walton Post Office has been announced as one of 69 post offices in Norfolk and West Suffolk that face the axe under the nationwide closure programme.
Its future is now subject to a six-week consultation exercise by Post Office Ltd.
But Welney could see a post office return to the village with an "outreach" service, that serves villages for a few hours each week.
Welney's post office was closed last year after owners Peter and Wendy Redman could not find a buyer.
North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham said he was "appalled" at the number of closures in Norfolk.
"It's a grim, grim day for the rural economy," he added.
