MORE than 50 vehicles were stop checked in the latest multi-agency roadside operation to tackle crime in rural West Norfolk.

Terrington Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) led the operation at the county borders on Friday as part of an on-going priority to target criminals using the local road network.

The roadside checks on the A17 at Walpole Cross Keys and A47 at Clenchwarton also involved the Environment Agency, HM Customs & Excise and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).

A number of drivers were reported for offences relating to vehicle construction and safety, custom and excise duties and the illegal carriage of waste.

Sgt Mark Cant, who organised the event, said: "A clear message was sent out by partners and police in this area that people operating illegally or using the local road network to commit crime will not be tolerated.
