A blue plaque to show where Wisbech Canal used to join the River Nene was unveiled on Friday.
It was paid for by Wisbech Society and unveiled by Councillor Ann Carlisle, Fenland district councillor and deputy mayor of Wisbech.
The town's Churchill Road is on the site of the canal, which linked with the Nene just south of Freedom Bridge, where the plaque is positioned.
Cllr Carlisle said: "The Wisbech Society always has and is keen to continue to identify these significant features that tell the history of the town."
The canal, was authorised in 1794 and opened in 1797. It was abandoned in 1926 and filled in during the 1960s. It was about five miles long and ran from Wisbech to Outwell, where it joined Well Creek.
