War heroes from Wisbech remembered in special museum display
A display of objects, letters, documents and images will be on show at Wisbech Museum on Remembrance Sunday.
The commemorative pieces will be mounted to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War armistice.
Featured in the display will be the medal group of Sergeant Fred Rowe which includes his distinguished conduct medal.
This is on a long-term loan to the museum from the Cambridgeshire Regiment Collection.
The display will be on show on November 11 at 10am to 2pm.
Curator, Robert Bell, said: “There are very poignant pieces such as a tapestry panel in memory of George. W. Young who was killed on the April 6 1918, a few months before hostilities ceased.
“The panel, which was made by his father, incorporates a photograph of George and also his medals.
“We are keen to collect from the public details of their ancestors’ service both at home and at the front and also to document the impact of the conflict on individuals and families after the end of the war.”
