ROAD safety experts from Cambridgeshire County Council and Cambridgeshire Police have launched a DVD on this website as part of a campaign to get Fenland drivers to slow down, don't drown.

In the DVD, the county council's safety expert Phil Rennie takes a drive with casualty reduction officer, PC Tony Barrios, along drain roads to give drivers helpful hints to avoid ending up in a drain.

The pair talk about issues around making the roads safer, as well as tips on improving driving on these roads, including staying to the speed limit and wearing seat belts.

The film is part of a campaign in the Fenland area to get drivers to 'Slow Down, Don't Drown' and complements safety schemes being implemented in the district, such as average speed cameras on the Forty Foot Bank Road and improvements to the Sixteen Foot.

County Councillor Matt Bradney, Cabinet member for growth and infrastructure, said: "We are always looking at new initiatives to urge motorists to think about their driving and this film is just part of a wider campaign to improve road safety on Fenland roads.

"We are urging motorists to slow down, don't drown and drive at the appropriate speed for the conditions. The vast majority of these accidents are caused by motorists driving too fast or in a dangerous manner.

"Reducing road accidents is part of the Council's commitment to make safer communities. We are doing this in partnership with the police and fire service and I would like to thank them for the vital role they play.
