VICTIMS of hate crime in Fenland have a new way to report incidents from today.
Victims and witnesses will now be able to call, text, email or talk online to specially trained staff about incidents of abuse.
Central Division has signed up to the Stop Hate UK scheme run by the national charity Stop Hate UK. This means reporting incidents will be made easier for victims who may not want to call the police in the first instance.
Stop Hate UK is an independent national charity which raises awareness and understanding of hate crime and supports the individuals and communities it affects.
The 24-hour reporting line and text services enable victims and witnesses to access independent support when they need it, and remain anonymous if they wish.
If an interpreter is required the charity will find one and make a return phone call within 72 hours.
Hate Crime Officer DC Jamie Brownsell said: "I hope that this scheme encourages people to talk to someone about any hate crimes they may be suffering or witnessing.
"It will give people the opportunity to get support and decide if they would like to take it further by talking to the police."

Anyone wishing to report an incident of hate crime directly to Cambridgeshire police should call 0345 456 456 4.
