UPWELL: Opposition mounts to homes at baptist church

PLANS to build five homes at the back of Upwell Baptist Church have met with opposition from parish councillors, a drainage board and police.

Cindy Oliver Ltd wants permission from King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council to build the two-bed chalet style homes.

Upwell Parish Council says there are issues with the site relating to human remains and councillors want to know if there are special restrictions on the development of the land.

The parish council has criticised the plan as being a major over-development of the plot and the design as being totally out of keeping with the surrounding properties.

It also has highways concerns including visibility problems and extra traffic which would be generated by the new homes.

The parish council said: "We have concerns about the over-looking aspect on to neighbouring properties from the dormer windows and concerns about the mention of a 'pond' which is clearly not a pond but a main drain."

Police have voiced their concerns over the fact that parking at the properties will be screened. They say owners should be able to see their vehicles from their homes.

The Middle Level Commissioners said the proposed lay out would restrict maintenance operations and increase the risk of flooding.

It says damage caused by a previous developer to a drain on the site has never been repaired and poses a risk to drainage in the area.
