TWO men armed with a crowbar and a baseball bat stole a cash register after threatening staff at the post office at Parson Drove, Wisbech last night.

One of the raiders was injured on the arm when a member of staff grabbed the crowbar and hit him.

The robbery took place between 4.50 and 4.55 pm. The two raiders, wearing hoods and scarves to disguise their faces, took the cash register and made off in a blue 4x4 vehicle which was later found abandoned in the river at Honey Hill Road, Gorefield near Wisbech.

Detective Sergeant Matt Swash, of Fenland Serious Crime Team, the man leading the hunt for the two robbers, today appealed for witnesses.

"This was a serious and potentially extremely violent robbery, and we're anxious to catch those responsible quickly.

"I'm anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious near the post office or the spot where the vehicle was found.

"Did they see two men leaving a similar vehicle and going into the post office, or coming out and driving away from the post office? Perhaps they saw the vehicle being abandoned and two men leaving the scene, possibly in another vehicle.

"Someone may also be aware that a man has an arm injury which he may have sought treatment for. Whatever you think you may have seen or heard which may help us trace these men, please let us know."

"We also want to hear from anyone at any time who sees or hears anything, or has seen or heard anything suspicious outside other post offices or business premises. Please do not hesitate to call us.
