DOGS of all shapes and sizes took part in a fun dog show on Saturday ... to help raise cash for The Cat Haven at Leverington.

The event, in the courtyard of St Peter's Church Hall, Wisbech, attracted 45 entries in a variety of classes including prettiest bitch, most handsome male, kindest face and waggiest tail.

The £302 raised will help to pay bills at The Cat Haven, which has 50 permanent residents and looks after other cats.

Tracy Reeve, of the haven, said: "This is the worst year we have ever known and we have seen some very sad things.

"Just recently, we had a fourweek old kitten with broken legs and infested with maggots.

"We had a telephone call saying someone had seen a kid kicking a kitten. It has been very depressing.

"Vets' bills and food costs are crippling. We need about £1,000 a month and that is why we do these fund-raising events.

"We are not like the big organisations which benefit from legacies and things like that."

A Christmas dog show will be held at Upwell village hall on November 26.
