HUNDREDS of chickens and turkeys have been stolen from a farm.

Thieves broke into the poultry farm in New Drove, Wisbech in the middle of the night and took 250 birds belonging farmer Stephen Wiggington.

Later 46 of the birds were found unfed and not watered in land miles away from the farm.

In total 200 of the animals are still missing and the hunt is now on for bogus turkey sellers in the area.

Mr Wiggington said: "No one saw or heard anything.

"They are obviously trying to sell the birds but have been unsuccessful. We don't know where the birds have been or where the rest of them are."

Mr Wiggington discovered the livestock had gone missing last week when he got up to find that the chickens and turkeys had vanished.

No one heard a thing because the farm is completely isolated from other houses in the area.

This week a landowner in Moises Bank, near Emneth, Norfolk, contacted police to say that a large number of birds that did not belong to him were wandering around his land.

Mr Wiggington identified the birds as his own before taking them to the vets to recover.

It is thought the thieves would not have a lot of luck if they tried to sell the birds because it is the wrong time of year.

Police have appealed for information about the whereabouts of the remaining livestock.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: "Police enquiries are ongoing.

"Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have information about the theft of the birds of about them being dumped in Norfolk."
