POLICE targeted motorists as part of an on-going campaign to target criminals using the local road network.

During the operation officers stopped a number of offenders whose vehicles had no insurance, were unroadworthy or were using red diesel.

Terrington Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) led the operation on Friday at the A47, Wisbech.

Agencies involved in the operation included VOSA, Customs and Environmental Health.

The initiative supports Operation Radar - the Constabulary's campaign to target rogue traders, bogus callers and those involved in affiliated rural crime.

During the course of the operation, police were able to gather further information on criminals operating in the area for future action.

Temporary Sgt Sam Pontin, said: "We continue to work closely with our partners to send out a clear message to those operating illegally or using the local road network to commit crime will not be tolerated.

"By working in partnership, the organisations can be even more effective at identifying and taking wide-ranging action against those motorists operating outside of the law."

Neighbourhood policing teams across the county work to support Norfolk police's specialist Operation Radar team, which provides a single-point of contact for police and partner agencies for all offences related to bogus callers, rogue traders and linked rural crime.

Operation Radar is a multi-agency effort with partner agencies including Norfolk County Council's Trading Standards, the Department of Work and Pensions, HM Customs and Revenue, Environment Agency and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).

Partners work together to identify and prosecute offenders or take ancillary action against offences such as tax evasion, benefit fraud, including asset seizure, vehicle seizure and criminal prosecution for fraud offences.

Safer Neighbourhood Teams across the county are currently working to raise the profile of 'doorstep crime' by conducting reassurance and information visits to vulnerable households.
