TEN teachers have been appointed to the staff of Wisbech Grammar School.

Dr Sarah Shakibi takes over the computing and information technology department, after working as head of information technology and e-learning co-ordinator at Bellerbys College, Brighton.

A Swiss national, Noemie Neighbour, who has been teaching at Dereham Neathered High, is the new head of French.

Two new faces in the modern languages department are French teacher Karen Forbes, who has just completed her post-graduate certificate of education at Cambridge University, and German teacher Emily Wagstaffe, a former pupil at the school, who has just completed her post-graduate certificate of education at Warwick University.

Another ex-pupil, Ben Hoyles, has returned to teach boys' physical education.

Since captaining the school rugby team, he went on to represent England under-18s and has played rugby league for England Lions.

Samantha Goodier, who studied physical education and sport science at Loughborough University, has joined the girls' physical education department.

The English department has been enlarged with the appointment of Emma Farr, who has worked as second in the department and head of general studies at Bromsgrove School.

Amy Beck, who has taught at Repton and Downham Market High School, will teach history with geography and religious studies, as well as coaching a netball team.

Kate Taylor, who has just completed a degree at Durham University, will combine geography teaching in the senior school with providing classroom assistance at Magdalene House, the junior school.

Another past pupil, Michaela Tooke, joins the food and nutrition department after working as leader of food technology and child development at the Peele Community College.

Headmaster Nicholas Hammond said: "We are delighted to welcome such a talented group to the school and our good wishes go to all who have retired in the past year.

"We are expanding the number of teachers that are here to provide smaller set sizes and a greater degree of individual attention for pupils.
