A mysterious package covered in black tape and dumped in a household bin prompted a major police incident in Wisbech today.

However in the past few moments police have ruled the incident has been resolved.

“An inspection of the device discovered it was not suspicious,” said a police spokesman.

“The cordon is being lifted.”

A woman has told this newspaper the incident in the town that caused homes to be evacuated started with the discovery of a package.

“It’s to do with my bin,” Georgina Wragg.

“There was a box covered in black tape in there at about 8.20am,” she said.

The incident caused neighbours to be evacuated and a local shop was closed temporarily near to Rectory Gardens where the box was found.

“We were evacuated after the first responding officer had a look,” said Georgina.

The large taped box had a handle on it and a hole in the side.

The area in Rectory Gardens off Norwich Road was cordoned off whilst police conducted their investigation. .

“A 100 metre cordon was put in place and people were evacuated from the area,” said the spokesman.
