YOUR Wisbech Standard has been shortlisted in the EDF Energy East of England Media Awards.

The Standard will be competing for the title of Weekly Free Newspaper of the Year at the awards ceremony at Ipswich in January.

Two of the Standard's journalists, news editor John Elworthy and reporter Maggie Gibson, have also been shortlisted, in the Print Journalist of the Year category.

In last year's EDF awards, Mr Elworthy was named Weekly Journalist of the Year for the Eastern Counties and Standard photographer Brian Purdy was highly commended.

The nominations come only days after the Standard's sister paper, the Cambs Times was named Best Free Weekly Newspaper in the West and East Midlands and Eastern Region at the Newspaper Society annual awards and runner-up in the national Free Weekly Newspaper of the Year category.
