A council says it distributed 60 letters to homes around Spider Park in Walsoken to let residents know they were holding an event there on Tuesday.

Despite this, barely anyone attended the road show, which was designed to give residents their say on plans for new play equipment for the park on Jasmine Close.

An Fenland District Council spokesman said: “Letters were distributed last week to about 60 properties in the surrounding area.

“The letters said our support vehicle would be parked next to the play area from 12 noon to 4pm and that a member of staff would be on hand to talk to residents.

“They also said that plans of play schemes that had been installed by FDC would be available to look at and that we were looking for further ideas on future uses for the area.”

Councillor Dave Patrick, who organised the event, said he would like to re-run it on a Saturday morning or during the half-term holidays.

He said: “One thing that has become quite evident is the large number of residents that have stated that they were not aware of the event and would have attended.

“Regarding leaflets if the council print them I and some helpers will deliver to a wide circle of Walsoken to give the opportunity for a wider audience to attend.”
