Highways England tweeted in the early hours today: “In Cambridgeshire, the A1 is closed in both directions between the A1M J17 (A605) and the A6121 at Tinwell due to severe weather conditions.

“We are working to clear any vehicles that are within the closure points. Snow ploughs are now on scene and we hope to have you moving as soon as possible.

“Instead of using the A1, motorists should consider using the M1 as an alternative route.

“Please allow extra time for your journey should you be travelling in the area, and drive to the conditions. If possible, delay your journey and only travel if absolutely necessary.”

Peterborough City Hospital‏ however remains open, with the hospital tweeting: “Good morning from PCH! Definitely places to park here this morning! Our roads on site are gritted - and there are no clinics cancelled at the moment. Take care today everyone.
