A WOMAN, who farmed her own land in the Fens for the best part of 30 years, celebrated her 100th birthday with a party attended by family, friends and neighbours.
Ruby Halstead owned land in Walsoken and grew fruit, wheat and sugar beet with her husband Elliott.
Originally from Lincolnshire, Mrs Halstead moved to Walsoken after marrying Elliott in 1940. Elliott died 10 years ago, aged 88.
Together they had two sons, Brian and Derek, as well as three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs Halstead's hobbies included visiting the cinema every week, riding on the back of Elliott's motorcycles and going on holiday in a caravan to Great Yarmouth.
She moved to the Strathmore House nursing home, Friday Bridge, three years ago. A party was held on October 23 celebrating Mrs Halstead's 100th birthday, with guests including family, friends and fellow residents of Strathmore House.
