THE RSPCA has launched an investigation after the bodies of 15 rabbits were found dumped in a Fenland river.
They were found yesterday (Thursday) in plastic carrier bags in the Well Creek at Outwell, between Rectory Road and Low Side.
Some of the bodies had floated out of the bags, revealing that the rabbits were a variety of colours and sizes. It is thought they have been in the water for 24 to 48 hours and it is impossible to determine how they died.
RSPCA inspector Jon Knight said: "Although we don't know how the rabbits died, the fact that they had been stuffed into carrier bags and thrown into the river is extremely suspicious.
"I dread to think what happened to these animals and we urgently need to hear from anyone who knows where they came from."
West Norfolk Council has been contacted regarding the removal of the bodies.
