THE President of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland is visiting Fenland next week as part of a national tour.

President David Fowler will be seeing, first-hand, the wealth of volunteering and fundraising work being carried out by his members in the local community and celebrating their outstanding commitment.

RIBI President David Fowler said: "This is an incredible setting for my journey around the districts and I am especially looking forward to hearing about the many projects being carried out. Here in District 1080, Rotary clubs recently raised a staggering 140,000 for the Haiti disaster and over 70,000 for Thanks for Life, End Polio Now campaign. This shows the trust the public has in Rotary to deliver aid to where it is needed."

The tour includes a visit to the Woodland Tree Planting Project in Whittlesey where he will plant a tree.

This gesture mirrors the actions of Rotary Founder Paul Harris, who planted a tree during all his district visits, and demonstrates Rotary's commitment to the environment. This three acre spread of land was granted to the Rotary Club of Whittlesey which is used by local organisations.

There is a careful tree maintenance programme in place. In the evening he will be the guest at Wisbech Rotary Club.

President David's visit also includes Sailability in Oulton Broad Water Sports Centre.

The President said: "Meeting Rotary club members here in Rotary District 1080 and seeing the hard work everyone puts in to these projects is a privilege.

"Rotary is all about family and having fun. The projects I have seen bring everyone together to help others in the community and across the world, whilst having fun and excitement at the same time."
