WISBECH Rotary Club announced this week that more than 60 Christmas parcels of groceries and goodies were distributed by members to elderly people in the Wisbech district just before Christmas. The club is on the lookout for more deserving elderly folk in need of a 'lift' at Christmas time. Details of recent activities, also announced this week, included the following. The 'Wheelchairs in Africa' street collection in the Market Place raised enough money for the club to purchase, with match-funding, four wheelchairs for the Wheelchair Foundation. A local trainee doctor is going to Nepal for three months to assist in the hospital programme in the rural areas of the country. Rotary has assisted in his sponsorship. The Christmas dinner, with carols from the children of West Walton Primary School, was a success, as was a Burns Night Supper with piper, readings and music associated with Robbie Burns. President Ken Green acted as Father Christmas for the Orchards School in Wisbech. The club does have access to funds in the M L Green Trust to be used for the benefit of elderly people in need in the Wisbech district.
