UKIP has put forward county councillor Paul Clapp to replace his former UKIP colleague Brenda Lay whilst the Conservatives have selected taxi driver Billy Rackley.

No other party has put forward a candidate.

The by election, to be held on December 8, follows the disqualification of Mrs Lay for non attendance.

Her removal was immersed in controversy over her difficulties in gaining access to the council chamber in her wheelchair.

She fell foul of the legislation that automatically bars a councillor for non attendance over a six month period.

Little is known about the Tory candidate who was the only party member to put himself forward at a private party meeting earlier in the week.

In 2015 two of the four seats went to UKIP, and the remaining two to Independents. Conservatives contested all four seats then but no other party, then or now, has put forward a contender.
