Pupils wear iron-on badges as Fenland school helps cut rising uniform costs
PUPILS at a Fenland primary school have started wearing iron-on badges to help cut the rising cost of uniform.
Marshland St James VC Primary and Nursery is one of a handful of schools who have helped parents save more than 50 per cent on uniform costs by adopting the special badges.
The heat-bonded badge, which can be ironed straight onto shirts and jumpers, allows parents to buy cheaper high-street uniform rather than the more expensive clothing which has embroidered logos.
Head teacher Sheila Day said: “We are aware that school uniform can make a significant impact on family budget and are glad to be able to offer this alternative solution.”
The iron-on badges have proved extremely popular with parents since the Friends of the School discovered them.

A survey published earlier this year had suggested that parents would spend 27million more than in 2010 on new school items for their children.
The study, carried out by insurer LV=, found that parents would splash out 736million on school equipment. School-branded uniform was thought to be a key contributor in these rising costs.
