A PUBLIC meeting will be held next Monday for residents of the Waterlees area in Wisbech to express their views about the controversial new 1million playground.

The showcase play park is still due to open later this month despite recent vandalism which organisers are hoping will not slow the park’s development. Security has been stepped-up to prevent further damage with a guard remaining on site when contractors have gone home.

Two 65-foot barges, that will eventually be used as classrooms, were targeted within days of arriving at the site. All of the windows were smashed, doors and skylights were rammed and fire extinguishers were set off on the inside.

Mike Davey, Cambridgeshire County Council’s Director of Community Engagement for Fenland, Gayle Gorman, the council’s Director of Learning, Councillor Martin Curtis, county council Cabinet member for Children and Councillor Samantha Hoy, county councillor for Wisbech North will attend.

Andrew Lane from Sutcliffe Play, the contractors who installed the play equipment, will also be present.

The meeting will be held at the Oasis Centre in St Michael’s Avenue, Wisbech, at 7pm.
