WISBECH Town Council is leading the way in helping to make the town a quality place to live and work.
After a year of hard work and significant improvement the council was presented with the Quality Council Certificate on Friday.
Mayor Councillor David Oliver received the framed certificate from Ian Dewar, county executive officer of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Association of Local Councils.
Council leader Councillor Roger Green praised the work carried out by Christine Newman who recently retired as town clerk for all the hard work she put into the "fantastic achievement".
Cllr Green said: "Wisbech is a town with a wealth of history, its port used to be more important than the port of London, and we are striving to bring the town back to its former glory.
"We welcome the massive public and private investment that is being put into the town and we are working with many partners to get the balance right.

"We believe it is important for Wisbech to re-take its place as a centre of excellence in the Fens and out new town clerk, Erbie Murat, has a central role to play in that."
Cllr Oliver feels just as strongly. He said: "Wisbech Town Council is involved with many projects in the town with representatives on Wisbech Community Development Trust, Fenland Links, Fenland Arts and the Wisbech Area Regeneration and Development Trust."
The council has also been asked to work with the management team of the new library development in Wisbech.
