MARSHLAND High School held its prize giving with students being recognised for their excellence and progress in many subjects.

Prizes were presented by Samantha Hill who is a Senior Desk Officer in the Home Office and liaises between Whitehall and Brussels on matters of international policy.

Miss Hill spoke to students about her experiences in the Home Office and offered words of encouragement and advice.

Among the guests at last Thursday's event were the mayor of Wisbech Councillor Yvonne Lawrence and mayor of King's Lynn and West Norfolk Councillor Michael Pitcher.

Among the various prizes awarded was the new Golden Heron Award which is to be awarded for excellent attendance, outstanding progress, and contribution to the school and wider community.

Fifteen youngsters received the award as well as John Hill who has been a governor at the school for more than 25 years.

On Friday an awards assembly was held for current students who had been awarded prizes in a host of categories for their achievement last year.
