A FENLAND pre-school has started its push to be marked outstanding by Ofsted inspectors, just two weeks after picking up a good report.

The ABC Pre-School was rated 'good', but staff and governors were told in a feedback session with an Ofsted inspector the pre-school is the "top end of good".

Nicki Rimner, chairman of the Tydd St Giles pre-school, said: "She also said we should easily get an outstanding on their next visit.

"We are absolutely over the moon. Everyone here has worked really hard and we are really pleased with the outcome."

The pre-school, which operates from a mobile on the grounds of the Kinderley Primary School, opened in 2002 and can cater for up to 24 children at once.

An after-school club and a holiday club are also run from the pre-school, and they were both marked as good in the report.

Ofsted inspector Margaret Roberts' report said children are "making good progress towards the early learning goals because staff have sound knowledge of the foundation stage and the teaching meets the needs of all children".

The report also said that children behave "extremely well because they know what is expected of them" and that children have their own notice board to record any activities they want to take part in, which "helps to build their self-esteem and encourages them to take a pride in their club".

Part of the pre-school's future improvement to pick up an outstanding grade includes providing more opportunities for outdoor play and offering provision for children who want to relax or sleep.
