TWO men wearing balaclavas fled empty handed after attempting to rob a post office.

The incident happened at just after 5pm on Friday (January 4) at the post office in High Road, Elm, near Wisbech.

The robbers were armed with metal bars and threatened both the postmaster and his wife.

However, no money was handed over and the men fled in a green Volvo, heading towards Friday Bridge. The victims were not injured in the incident but were shaken by what happened.

The get-away car had been stolen from Sutton St James the previous night, January 3 - 4. It was found on fire shortly after the attempted robbery at Begdale.

Detective Constable Simon Rust, from Wisbech CID, said: "I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have information to contact police.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who saw the green Volvo get-away car, either before or after the incident. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be important to this inquiry."

Anyone with information should contact DC Rust on 0845 456 456 4, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
