POLICE are trying to trace a man who came to the aid of a woman who was being attacked in Wisbech.

Detectives investigating two sexual assaults in the town within the space of two hours want to speak to the man who disturbed an attacker in St Augustine’s Road.

The offender had grabbed the 23-year-old victim as she walked along the road at about 2am on Saturday, April 2. The witness ran over as the attacker struggled with the woman and shouted at the attacker who fled towards the ambulance station.

At about 3.30am to 4am on the same night, a 26-year-old woman was grabbed by a man as she walked along a footpath in the town park. She managed to wriggle out of her jacket and ran off towards Tavistock Road.

The victims did not report the attacks until recently.

Det Con Tony Harlow, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of these incidents.

“In particular I would like to speak to the Good Samaritan who came to the aid of the woman who was being attacked in St Augustine’s Road.

“These incidents are rare but I would urge people to take common sense precautions when going out after dark, such as sticking to well-lit areas and walking in pairs or groups where possible.”

Anyone with any information should call DC Harlow on 0345 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
