Violence against police is being labelled a growing problem across the country.

A spokesman for Fencops on Twitter said: “Officer assaults are unacceptable. There are no excuses.

“I have heard in my first two weeks of exceptional work being done and I will do all I can to support my officers and staff.”

Liz Groom, chair of Cambridgeshire Police Federation, and an officer for 22 years, said: “Hearing this morning of a FenCops officer hit on the head with a glass after a serious disorder and he and others being surrounded.

“Their actions sound commendable and brave. Violence on officers is increasing.

Alan Baldwin, deputy chief constable, said: “The Chief is contacting the officers assaulted this morning.

“I contacted others who were injured on Friday. We are reviewing incidents and will take robust action.
