ITALIAN students had the chance to enjoy some local fare when they had a picnic with pupils at Wisbech Grammar School.

Fenland asparagus and the school’s apple juice were on the menu, designed by the school’s food and nutrition students.

The group of 14 students from Morazzone in the Lombardy region of Italy spent a day at the school as part of a twinning visit; their town is twinned with Wimblington.

The Italian youngsters, aged 13 and 14, also taught the Grammar School pupils some phrases, and answered questions about their home area.

Head of French at the school, Noemie Neighbour, said: “The school already has links with Italy. The geography department visits Sorrento every two years, and the physical education staff regularly choose the Italian Alps for the annual ski trip. It is hope that this visit will be the first to many.”
