CONSERVATIVE candidate Peter Humphrey has been elected as the new Cambridgeshire County Councillor for the Roman Bank and Peckover Division - retaining the seat for his party.
Mr Humphrey polled 897 votes, with the Labour candidate Barry Diggle receiving 380 votes and Paul Clapp on behalf of the UK Independence Party attracting 192 votes. The turnout was 21.9%
The seat became vacant following the death of Brian Hardy, who had represented the areas since 1997. Fenland District Council ran the by-election on behalf of the county council.
The by-election took place yesterday.
