A POLICE officer hit in the jaw as she tried to arrest drunken teenager Elizabeth Manning has been awarded £50 compensation.

Officers were called to the QD store in the early hours of the morning, because Manning was shouting and swearing, and punching the pillars outside the Market Place premises.

After being warned, 18-year-old Manning said: "I don't care if you arrest me," and then lunged at Pc Kayleigh Smith.

As Pc Smith tried to get hold of Manning, the teenager's arm hit the officer's jaw.

Manning, of The Staithe, Holmes Drive, Wisbech, admitted assault and disorderly behaviour. She was given a 12-month conditional discharge and must pay the compensation.

"She had drunk too much, that is one of her main problems," explained solicitor John Clarke.

"She had been threatened by her ex-boyfriend, and was upset about that. She aimed her aggression at anyone, including the police officer. The assault was reckless rather than intentional.
