A ROAD traffic collision reduction day has been planned for Parson Drove, following complaints from local residents about speeding in the village.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, together with Cambridgeshire Constabulary will stage the event at the Playing Field in Main Road, Parson Drove, on Saturday ( July 19), from 10am to 2pm.

The event is designed to get visitors thinking about the consequences of their driving, and will feature several safety displays by the police, and also various car manufacturers in the area.

It also features two re-enactments of a road traffic collision, in which firefighters will rescue casualties from a vehicle, using specialist cutting equipment. It is hoped that this will give spectators some idea of what it is like to be involved in a road traffic collision.

Howard Newton, Community Safety Officer for Fenland, said: "Over the past three years there have been a number of fatal and serious collisions in the Parson Drove area, some of these have been caused by drivers who were speeding.

"Residents and the Parish Council contacted Cambridgeshire Constabulary and the Fire Service to see if there was anything we could do to try and educate drivers about the consequences of their actions, which is what we have planned for the event on Saturday.

"We hope as many people will attend as possible. There will be lots to look at, and also the chance to meet local firefighters and members of the police. We hope to make the day fun and interesting, while at the same time ensuring that those who attend take home some very important safety messages.
