A LORRY driver has been found not guilty of causing the death of Parson Drove man Derrick Simmonds by dangerous driving.
Mr Simmonds, of Main Road, Parson Drove, died at the age of 78 in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge on January 24 last year.
Mr Simmonds was a volunteer delivery driver for Parson Drove surgery. He was driving a Ford Granada and delivering drugs to patients when his vehicle was in collision with a lorry driven by Roger Coleman on the B1166 close to the Seadyke Bank junction, near Wisbech St Mary.
Coleman, 47, of Kimms Belt, Thetford, had failed to notice a give-way sign on the road.
He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, a jury of six men and six women found him guilty of the lesser charge of careless driving.
Coleman was disqualified from driving for a year, fined �1,000, and ordered to pay �95 court costs.
In his summing up at Cambridge Crown Court last Thursday, Judge Patrick O'Brien said: "I would not be doing my duty if I did not disqualify you.
