THE Mayor of Wisbech, Councillor David Oliver, marked a learning centre open day by cutting the tape to declare it officially open.

The Sencia centre, which offers more than 500 courses through Learn Direct, staged the two events at the same time in a bid to make the community more aware of the courses on offer - a wide range for personal pleasure, personal development or to find a job.

The centre, in the town's Church Mews, has a partnership with the town's JobCentre to help people who have been out of work for more than 26 weeks, with skills such as filling out a CV, and where to look for suitable jobs.

It also offers skills for life courses in literacy and numeracy, which will be funded for students to bring their skills in line with Government standards.

The courses can be undertaken in a student's spare time or at the centre, and a Sencia tutor will always be at the centre to help.
