Wisbech Grammar School staged a mock election last week ... unlike the parliamentary and council elections, it wasn’t a Conservative landslide.

All the pupils and teachers were invited to put a cross on their ballot papers in a first past the post system election following a leaders’ debate on the hustings and a question and answer session.

The Greens came out on top, with the Conservatives behind the Liberal Democrats in third.

Edward Page, 16, representing the Green Party, stormed to 32 per cent of the vote. Liberal Democrat Thomas Mounfield got 18 per cent, with Conservative Emily Wood on 17 per cent.

Head of politics Tim Chapman said: “The campaign provoked extremely good debate and followed on very well from the ‘Any questions?’ broadcast that took place at the school on the eve of the general election .”
