A MAN was arrested tonight in a dramatic police operation at a Fenland mansion.

A police helicopter landed in a field next to the house in Seadyke Bank, Murrow as it was trying to catch three men.

One man wearing a white t-shirt was brought out in handcuffs but another got away. The Cambridgeshire Police helicopter was not able to pursue the second offender because he was low on fuel.

As police officers left the helicopter to go out of the house, a man slunk away down the side of a field and disappeared into the trees.

Realising the man had got away, the police followed his trail in an attempt to track him down but to no avail.

Groups of curious residents gathered on the side of the road as they tried to find out what was going on.

Police confirmed later that the helicopter was called following reports of a burglary in progress at Murrow Lane, Murrow, Wisbech.

A spokesman said the call was received by police at 4.15pm. It is thought three burglars were disturbed and fled the scene.
