A FENLAND primary school has been ordered to improve in the next three months by Ofsted after inspectors rated it inadequate.

Tilney All Saints VC Primary School, received a rating of four for its overall effectiveness based on inspections in October.

The report said the school still needed to carry out all necessary safety checks on members of staff and give them up to date child protection training. In addition, it needs to make sure all pupils make the best possible progress.

However, the report also said the pupils felt safe and enjoyed learning, and praised the strong sense of teamwork and dedication among staff and governors.

The school received a grade of satisfactory for its "capacity for sustained improvement".

Jennie Rankin, acting head teacher, said: "We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and are disappointed not to have met all of the requirements relating to safeguarding.

"We have now addressed the issues raised and have tightened up our processes to ensure we are following all of the latest guidelines."

Before the next inspection, the school has been told to plan work that challenges the pupils, raise their expectations and allow the pupils to be more involved in selecting topics to study.

Mrs Rankin added: "Our school is a small caring school and we value each and every one of our pupils. Ofsted recognised this in their comments on the personal development and well-being of our pupils.
