THE row over the proposed 75,000 move of the Horsefair taxi rank, Wisbech, took a dramatic twist today that could lead to the scheme being altered or abandoned.
The newly formed Fenland District Council Overview and Scrutiny Policy Panel decided, at its inaugural meeting, that they will re-examine the closure case previously approved by the licensing committee.
The row propelled taxi drivers' leader Dave Patrick into successfully standing as a Lib Dem candidate in last week's Kirkgate by election and today's decision is seen as a reaction to that vote.
Members of the group will now hear the evidence again before they decide whether to overturn a ban imposed by the licensing committee on March 5.
Councillor Jan French, chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Policy Panel, said: "We feel this needs to be thoroughly investigated before a decision is made.
