The life of Great Britain’s most famous admiral Horatio Nelson will be discussed as part of Wisbech Society’s winter lecture series.
Retired Royal Air Force officer, John Wright, will describe the life of the naval commander, with particular reference to his service career and the Napoleonic Wars.
Mr Wright will also discuss some of the Nelsonian myths and touch upon the admiral’s relationship with Emma Hamilton.
Given Nelson’s turbulent career, in which he lost an eye in Corsica and an arm in Tenerife - before suffering a fatal wound at the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21 1805 - the talk promises to be an interesting evening.
On hearing of Admiral Nelson’s death, George III is alleged to have said: “We have lost more than we have gained.”
The doors open at the Dwight Centre, Wisbech Grammar School at 7.15pm on Monday November 5, for a 7.30pm start.
Admission is free for society members.
For non-members there is an admission cost of £3, while under 18s are invited to come along for free.
