NEARLY 95 per cent of Cambridgeshire children will start Reception in September at their first choice primary school.

A total of 94.4 per cent of children applying for a place in Reception have been allocated a place at their first choice.

A further 3.6 per cent have been offered a place at their second choice school, while fewer than 2 per cent could not be offered any of their preferences.

For children transferring to junior school, 95.2 per cent received their first preference school, while 0.85 per cent received their second preference.

There was a massive increase this year in the number of parents who applied online.

For reception places there was a 20 per cent increase - in September 2009 54 per cent of applications were online, but for September 2010 this increased to 74 per cent.

For applications from infant to junior schools, the proportion applying online increased from 58 per cent for September 2009 places to 88 per cent for places in September 2010.
