A FENLAND school’s parent council has been awarded a prestigious national award, being declared “New PTA of the Year” by a UK charity that supports parent teacher associations.

The Payne School at Parson Drove won 500 and a crystal trophy from the PTA-UK Charity, and received the award from Sir Pritpal Singh, the chair of the NCPTA National Awards Panel, and Ian Rose, a Paralympic silver medallist and former World and European Judo Champion. They received the award at a ceremony on board HMS Belfast in London.

The parent council was chosen from more than 100 entries from around the UK. The 500 will go towards building a roof for the school’s outdoor swimming pool to extend its use throughout the year.

Their next big fund raiser at the school will be a food and craft fair on the first weekend of December. Anyone wanting to be part of the fair is asked to get in touch with the school for further information.

Any local business interested in sponsoring the pool roof is asked to contact the school at head@payne.cambs.sch.uk or call 01945 700275.
