The North East Cambs MP was also keen to see how the school’s new £7 million facilities, completed in January 2013 are being used.

Mr Barclay said: “The new building is host to innovative teaching, including partnership work with the local Co-op. It is a great credit both to Keith Grass and his team at the Wisbech branch of the Co-op who host the students, and to the teaching staff at Meadowgate who are helping to develop a range of new life skills. I hope other businesses in Fenland will look at this scheme and see what they could do.

I was also hugely impressed by the high standards being achieved on the vocation courses, whether in the new Bramley’s coffee shop, stripping cars down in the Mechanics workshop, or planting up hanging baskets as part of the horticulture course. There was a sense of fun and engagement when chatting to students and staff alike.”
