A 66-YEAR-OLD man from Wales was killed when his car left a Fenland road and collided with some trees.
Rodney Smith, of Third Avenue, Penparcau, Aberystwyth, was driving a green Mazda 9 on the A47 near Guyhirn, close to the junction with the A141, at 3.10pm on Friday (January 4).
Police, fire crews and the ambulance service were called to the accident but were unable to save Mr Smith’s life.
A passenger in the car, a 63-year-old woman also from Aberystwyth, suffered minor injuries.
One lane of the A47 between Guyhirn and Wisbech was closed while emergency services dealt with the accident, with diversions put in place to ensure motorists avoided the area. The A47 was reopened a few hours later.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward. Pc John Blood, of the road policing unit, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who was on this stretch of the A47 at the time of the incident who witnessed the collision.”
