The Wisbech school turned pink to fulfil the wish of J Hollis, who died in the summer, of being remembered by “wearing pink and having fun”.

Staff and students enjoyed a day of fun, games and a staff “gunging” to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research.

Emma Bird, sixth form co-ordinator at Meadowgate Academy, said: “It would’ve been his 18th birthday that day and he would’ve thoroughly enjoyed the fun and frolics, especially the gunging of teaching assistant Jesse Bate who bravely endured the pink gunge.”

Meadowgate students also raised £338.62 for the local Macmillan Cancer Support group this month, by taking part in the charity’s national coffee morning fundraiser.
