A MAN was in a critical condition yesterday afternoon in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, after being involved in a head-on collision on the A47 on the outskirts of Wisbech.

The man, from Peterborough, had to be cut out of his Volkswagen Beetle after the accident, which also involved a Volkswagen Golf.

Three more people suffered minor injuries in the accident, which happened on the A47 at its junction with South Brink at about 6.20pm on Tuesday.

The A47 between Guyhirn roundabout and Cromwell Road roundabout, Wisbech, was closed for more than five hours on Tuesday night as emergency crews dealt with the accident and highways services cleared away the debris.

South Brink was also closed to prevent traffic from approaching the scene.
