A man was arrested and charged with theft after staff at Tesco in Cromwell Road, Wisbech caught him trying to steal £1,000 worth of alcohol.

“Ionut Manea, 22, from Northampton, was arrested on suspicion of theft and taken to the King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre yesterday,” said police.

“He was later charged with theft from a shop and detained to attend Peterborough Magistrates’ Court today.

“The alcohol was recovered.”
